STANDARD THREE: Cultural Leadership
Description: School executives will understand and act on the understanding of the important role a school’s culture contributes to the exemplary performance of the school. School executives must support and value the traditions, artifacts, symbols and positive values and norms of the school and community that result in a sense of identity and pride upon which to build a positive future. A school executive must be able to “reculture” the school if needed to align with school’s goals of improving student and adult learning and to infuse the work of the adults and students with passion, meaning and purpose. Cultural leadership implies
understanding the school as the people in it each day, how they came to their current state, and how to connect with their traditions in order to move them forward to support the school’s efforts to achieve individual and collective goals.

Student Culture
I organized a presentation for PTA to support student diversity at the school and to give students a healthy avenue to express themselves during the pandemic and critical political atmosphere. Students were asked to choose a means of reflecting on why they matter and present it in an artistic way. One student from our school got to move onto the state level for their 2D visual art. We had pictures, photography, dance, and songs entered into the contest. Winners were projected at the school to encourage students to embrace their identity.

As a part of Fuerza house team, we did a soft roll out of our house system. I helped 7th Grade Fuerza create a chant and symbol for their house culture. As a part of NRMS, I start off any meeting with our SOARING document that upholds expectations and positive school culture. I attend Professional Learning Teams every week to support instruction and school culture. In addition, my internship has allowed me to focus on the core beliefs by interacting with students, using iready to monitor growth, working with specialist to meet students needs, and enriching the whole child through academics and SEL support.
